“How did you find these women?!”

This is the question I get most often about Bedtime Stories for Women of Destiny.

One of my main goals for writing this book was to make women’s stories more accessible, so here are some of the places I found these women’s stories. I hope you use them to learn more about the women in the book and as a jumping-off point for your own research!

  • Women of Faith in the Latter Days Series

Edited by Richard E. Turley and Brittany Chapman Nash, this seven-volume series contains 10-page biographies of women throughout church history. The biographies include journal entries and fascinating insights into these women’s lives and faith.

  • Global Histories

On this page, church historians have compiled the history of the church in more than 40 countries. Each countries’ history includes stories of individual men and women and their roles in building the kingdom in their country.

  • LDS Women Project

This website features interviews and essays from faithful women around the world. These women are diverse in their nationalities, backgrounds, careers, and faith experiences. I highly recommend a visit to this website.

  • Century of Black Mormons

Compiled by researchers at the University of Utah, this database features names and biographical sketches of black Latter-Day Saints baptized between 1830 and 1930. It is a priceless record of saints whose stories don’t often get told!

  • At the Pulpit

At the Pulpit features talks from female LDS leaders throughout church history. Each talk is accompanied by a biography of the speaker.

  • Keepapitchinin, The Mormon History Blog

This blog has a treasure trove of writings by Edith Russel, one of the women featured in Bedtime Stories for Women of Destiny. It also features accounts of little known saints in church history and other interesting church history topics.

  • Better Days 2020

This campaign was started in 2020 to celebrate the 150th anniversary of Utah women being the first in the nation to vote. IT features key women Utah’s women’s suffrage movement, several of whom are featured in Bedtime Syories for Women of Destiny

  • Autobiographies

A few of the women featured in Bedtime Stories for Women of Destiny have written fascinating autobiographies about their lives and faith. Included in this list of books are Rosemary Card, Olga Kovářová Campora, Sahar Qumsiyeh, and Noelle Pikus Pace.
